Weekend training

My current maximum distance on a road bike is 17 miles, and that was back in August last year. I needed to get some more distance rides in before my 50km Charity ride in April. I set up a 18.3 route, that would cover the ring road path, the Frome valley, Bristol to Bath, and the dramway path in a loop.

The ride was duly created on Strava and put onto Brad’s Garmin as he has maps on his. We got into a bit of a mess just before Mangotsfield Station on the Bristol to Bath, the plan was to switch onto the Ring Road path towards Warmley so we went a different way there and back.
In hindsight I should have paid closer attention to the route where we needed to switch, however we ended up taking a gravel path into Emerson’s Green and going round in a circle. It transpired that Brad was following the red line which was what he thought was the route, however we should have been following the purple line!!
We finally managed to get back on the route without going back over the gravel and made it to Warmley before heading home.
Our total ride ended being 20.5 miles. I definitely need to do some longer rides, it isn’t however my legs that were feeling the distance, but my back and bottom. Time to make some more adjustments to the bike.
Next time Brad can be in charge of the route
