Last week we went to The Clifton Sausage for a birthday celebration. It is situated in the heart of Clifton Village and furnished with pine tables, candles and warm yellow and sky blue walls, and as its name suggests serves sausages.  It also servers other British classics, such as Toad in the hole and ham egg and chips.

Most of us opted for the sausages and mash (or champ) served with onion gravy.  I had the lamb and mint ones.  We followed this with some lovely puddings, such as English strawberries, with strawberry and clotted cream ice cream.

It is reasonably priced for Clifton, and I would go back.

Bristol already has one premiership team, Bristol Rugby.

On Saturday, Bristol City are off to Wembley to play Hull in the final of the play-offs for promotion to the football premiership.

Bristol City were only promoted last year, can they make promotion two years in a row?

I don’t really follow football, but I would like to see Bristol City win.

A couple of months ago we went to an Indian restaurant with a bit of a difference. Ganesha claim to serve authentic southern Indian food rather than the standard Anglo-Indian food that you find in most Indian restaurants. I haven’t been to India so I can tell if it is true or not, however I can say that there was none of the standard food on the menu.

Ganesha is Bedminster and has only been open a few months. We found the food to be good and excellent value. I would definitely recommend it, the restaurant is only small, so I would suggest booking. However they also do a take-away service.

A couple of weeks ago Brad and I went to the Carpe Diem restaurant.
Carpe Diem is a green and ethical restaurant, they use green energy, recycle as much as possible and their ingredients are fair-trade, organic and 50% are sourced within 50 miles of the restaurant. Even the furniture is made with wood from sustainable forests.

It is on the Harbourside development, next to the Ibis hotel. From the pitcher and piano, you go across Millennium Square past @Bristol and past the Planetarium (the big silver ball). Possible the best place to park if you are driving is under Millennium Square.

The restaurant is quiet modern, but it lacked a bit of atmosphere, possibility as it wasn’t that busy. They did have several booths that were perhaps a bit more intimate. They also have tables outside and the windows open up fully, should be ever get any good weather. Continue Reading »

I have been a bit lax in posting on this blog (well apart from the Monday joke).

It has also been said that we don’t going into Bristol enough for a night out and if we do it always seems to be to the same places.

Therefore I thought it would be a step in the right direction to review new places that we have been. So here goes.

It looked very much like going out on Saturday night was going to be rather wet, but the rain stopped and the sun came out late afternoon. We got into town about 7.30 and headed straight for Welsh Back, and The Apple.
