A couple of weeks ago Brad and I went to the Carpe Diem restaurant.
Carpe Diem is a green and ethical restaurant, they use green energy, recycle as much as possible and their ingredients are fair-trade, organic and 50% are sourced within 50 miles of the restaurant. Even the furniture is made with wood from sustainable forests.

It is on the Harbourside development, next to the Ibis hotel. From the pitcher and piano, you go across Millennium Square past @Bristol and past the Planetarium (the big silver ball). Possible the best place to park if you are driving is under Millennium Square.

The restaurant is quiet modern, but it lacked a bit of atmosphere, possibility as it wasn’t that busy. They did have several booths that were perhaps a bit more intimate. They also have tables outside and the windows open up fully, should be ever get any good weather.

The food overall was really good. We ate off of the a la carte menu, as the set price menu is only available from 12noon-7.00pm (2 Courses: £14.95 - 3 Courses: £19.95). While we waited for our starters we were served an amuse bouche. To start with I had scallops with bacon (£8.75) and Brad had the lobster, potato and asparagus salad (£7.50). My scallops were really good, but my bacon was a bit crispy for my liking. As a main course I chose the fillet of beef (£21.00) which was wrapped in prosciuttio, it was delicious and melt in the mouth tender. Brad had the roasted black cod with white beans (£17.95). We also had a side order of chunky chips (£2.45), which were about an inch thick and arrived in a neat stack, and some steamed seasonal veg (£3.45). I didn’t really need any chips as my dish came with mash. After 2 lovely courses we just about had room for desert. I went for the frozen mint mousse with dark chocolate sauce (£5.95) which was like a frozen after eight mint, yum, while Brad opted for the white chocolate brulee (£5.75). I finished off with a rather large coffee, that was almost a soup bowl!!.

The service overall was good, although we did have to wait a while before they took our desert order and my coffee arrived before my desert.

I suppose the question is; would we go back? Yes, but I think we will wait until they change the menu as I found it a bit limiting, but I think I would like to check out the breakfast or the lunch menu.

All Carpe Diem’s menus are available on their website, and you can also use their web site to make a reservation.
