Saturday Night in Bristol

I have been a bit lax in posting on this blog (well apart from the Monday joke).
It has also been said that we don’t going into Bristol enough for a night out and if we do it always seems to be to the same places.
Therefore I thought it would be a step in the right direction to review new places that we have been. So here goes.
It looked very much like going out on Saturday night was going to be rather wet, but the rain stopped and the sun came out late afternoon. We got into town about 7.30 and headed straight for Welsh Back, and The Apple.
- The Apple
The Apple is on a boat, it is moored alongside the Spyglass and opposite Kings Street. There is a large area outside (on dry land) with picnic tables and parasols. The deck is covered and there is a small bar, there is also seating (but this was reserved for a private party). Downstairs there is the main bar and more seating. They have those squishy sofas which you can lose yourself in and some bench seats along one side with tables and chairs. These may be better if you are planning on having food. We didn’t sample any of the food, but there was a BBQ happening outside.
Now the important part about the Apple in that it is a cider pub. They serve about 40 different ciders and other alcoholic apple drinks, such as calvados and schnapps. In order to try the greatest number of ciders without being unable to walk, we all chose different ones. Ali’s cider of choice was the Old Bristolian (they only serve this in 1/2 pt as it is 8%), my favourite was the pear and strawberry, (tastes very much like a strawberry chewit) Brad went for the Cheddar Valley (which is a vile orange colour). Liz tried the perry, but she is not really a cider person, so she had a bottle of beck’s.
- The Greenhouse
Our next destination was the Greenhouse at the bottom of Park Street. Not the first time we have been here, but the last time I was there was probably 2000. Our primary reason for going were the cocktails. If you buy 2 identical cocktails then they work out cheaper. Service at the bar wasn’t exactly speedy. The music was pure cheese and there is a small dance floor towards the back. There was quite a variety of age groups along with the almost compulsory hen and stag groups. It never got really busy on the dance floor as it is probably more of a stop before going elsewhere rather than a final destination for the night.
We had planned to go elsewhere, but it started to rain, and we were enjoying ourselves, so we staying in the Greenhouse till about 12:30ish when it was nearly empty.
Any suggestions on where we should go next time?
